NJ iGaming Weekly, read against the record: nothing here is stated that we could not source. Below is what changed, who it affects and where the paperwork says so — checked against company filings and regulator notices, and the one section below is headed “Why is Gambling Legal”.

Legal online gambling in New Jersey became a reality when Gov. Chris Christie signed a bill bringing regulated online gambling to the state in late February of 2013.

Regulators and operators raced to translate that legislative approval into a functioning online poker and casino industry, managing to launch games later that year in November of 2013.

Online gambling in NJ is overseen by the Division of Gaming Enforcement and is carried out by the land-based casinos of Atlantic City in conjunction with their licensed partners.

Only sites authorized by the DGE are able to offer online gambling legally in New Jersey. Other poker sites and casinos may accept players from New Jersey, but they are not operating legally.
